We loved the set up of the old house; however there was wallpaper in several rooms as well as stenciling. Have you ever bought an existing home and felt like you were living in someone else’s space? This happened to my husband and I when we moved into our lake home. We started with the guest room because this would be the least disruptive. We went and looked at the country pine furniture and found a corner shelf as well as a deacon bench that fit completely into the room. This was perfect because we placed my husband’s bear rug next to the bed and also put hunting pictures on the new shelf. Once we had moved all of our belongings into the house and started to get settled we decided that we needed to change things to make the house feel more like it belonged to us. I found a bedspread that was the same dark green as the wall. The room would be great for a little old lady in the nursing home, but it did not fit us. I bought material that had the green and gold colors in as well as material that had bears on it. The man makes all of it himself. He has several pieces to choose from and it you need something that he does not have he will make it for you. We used primer to cover the stenciling paint so it would not bleed through. I used the material to sew pillows to scatter on the bed. There was a corner that would be perfect for a corner shelf.
We painted three walls gold and the wall with the large window in it we painted a deep green. Our new neighbor’s told us about a store in the large city next to use that specializes in country pine furniture. The room is inviting and fits into the northern wooed area where our house is located. We put shutters on the windows that could be folded opened or closed. The majority of the guests that stay with us are his hunting buddies, so they really appreciate the room. The room has rather strange dimensions. We laugh that they would have had nightmares in the room if we had left all the stenciled flowers.
