Mens Fashion – How to Choose the Ideal Suit

This years styles in men’s fashion is experiencing a return to the professional image and consequently men’s suit are in vogue right now, so it might be worthwhile discussing the top tips for selecting the best for you. You will find this especially useful if you have never owned a suit and are buying a suit for the first time.

Right now browns, greys and taupe are very much in fashion and you can not go far wrong with these colours right now. However, if you are looking to own a suit for the first time and you are looking for a suit with versatility then I would recommend you look for a dark grey or dark navy suit that is almost close to appearing black. These will almost go with any colour shirt, suit most occasions and will definitely offer you the most service, an excellent choice for a first suit or if you are limited to how many you can afford to own.

I would always advocate that you own fewer quality suits than more poor quality suits and to this end it is important that you go for a suit made from a good fabric. Linen silk mixes are great for summer and wool are the best choice for any other time. Avoid polyester or anything of this nature at all costs. It is vital to get a good quality material so that it lasts, wears and cleans well and doesn’t start to look crumpled or as though it is loosing its shape.

Suites are usually vented in a number of ways. They may be double vented or single vented and some are un-vented. It is down to personal option, however, as a rule of thumb the slimmer you are then the more likely you are to be suited to a single vented jacket. However, if you have a larger frame then you will most surely be better off with a double vented suit as this will result in a much better fit across the back and shoulders and provide more freedom of movement.

Single breasted suits are always a classic and you can never go far wrong with these. However, you are perhaps best sticking to two buttons, especially if you are slightly larger on the stomach as it will cause the jacket to pull less on the shoulders. When it comes to trousers, you are best off sticking to flat fronted trousers if you are slim and pleated trousers in you have large thighs. These will provide larger people with more room in the seat and crotch, but if you are slim they will make you look skinny and look very baggy.
