Most of the tourist visits the Big Apple with its iconic tourist attractions and New York City shopping is another reason. There is something for every family member, whether you browse round independently or go on organized shopping tours. There are famous department stores, flagship stores, malls and designer outlets in the city. It’s easy to criss cross the city in a yellow cab and you can break for lunch at one of the many restaurants and delis.

There are three major department stores, all has a long history in shopping, New York City style. Bloomingdales is located on Third Avenue and is very tourist friendly with its own Visitor’s Center, a personal shopper facility and a currency exchanger. Saks Fifth Avenue is another prestigious store and has been in operation since 1924 with clothing, cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry and much more. If it’s just for window-shopping even Madison Avenue is the place to be seen. Lovers of designer clothes are in heaven and can choose from Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Prada to name a few. The best Italian shoes are to be found at Fratelli Rossetti. The area also has the famous Barney’s store, known for its designer wear and accessories for both men and women. Every February and again in August the store holds a warehouse sale. SoHo is another terrific New York City shopping district. It is an outdoor mall, complete with cobblestone streets. Stores sell clothing, sports goods, cosmetics and items for the home and garden.

Shopping is not just for the adults; the kids can have fun too. FAO Schwarz toy shop on Fifth Avenue is like a treasure chest to young eyes. There you will get every kind of toy, doll, and stuffed animal, including Steiff bears. There is also a wide range of board games and science games. Every age from baby onwards is catered for. The store operates an international shipping facility. Friendly staff helps to host children’s birthday parties.

The world of retail luxury can be summed up by one word that’s Tiffany. Tiffany and Co. is the most famous jeweler store in the world and hundreds of couples buy their engagement rings there each year. Including Paloma Picasso, there are stunning pieces of jewellery and finely made precision watches and the store commissions from the world’s best designers. There are less expensive items for sale, and which still meet the high standards of Tiffany, for the average shopper. These include sterling silver jewellery, cuff links and money clips. Tiffany is one of the best stores for New York City shopping to buy wedding gifts and there is a range of beautiful tableware and kitchenware.
