The processor enables print speed of as high as 20 pages per minute legal size and 21 ppm for letter size. The media capacity in the feed tray is a whopping 350 sheets, with a monthly duty cycle of an amazing 45,000 pages.
System requirements for the Samsung CLP 600 laser color printer, according to the documentation provided, are; Microsoft Windows 2000/98SE/ME/XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Linux 8.0 and 9.0, SuSE Linux 8.2 and 9.2 and Apple Mac 10.3 and 10.4 operating systems. Connectivity is a 4 pin, Type B hi-speed USB.
Server 2003 compatibility enables the Samsung CLP 600 to act as the print server for the office, so no additional hardware (i.e., a print server) is required.
The CLP 600 is Vista certified. Operational power consumption is 450 watts. Sound emissions are 30 dBA when idling and 50 dBA when in operation. Included consumables are 1 Magenta toner cartridge, 1 Black toner cartridge, 1 Yellow toner cartridge and 1 Cyan toner cartridge. Each is rated at 4,000 pages.
The Samsung CLP 600 can be plugged directly into a Local Area Network, which means it can act as the workgroup print server. The pages per minute average is a bit slower than a number of similarly priced servers. Averaging similar models by feature and price using a basket of 6 (Brother, HP, Epson, Samsung, Lexmark and Kyocera) shows that the average ppm in this price/feature range is 28 ppm. Also, double sided printing is not supported by the Samsung CLP 600 laser printer.
With that said, the Samsung CLP 600 was one of the first next-generation printers aimed at the SME and Workgroup markets. There are tens of thousands of these guys churning out copy every day of the year. The CLP 600 is a good example of over-build, with a 4000 page capacity toner cartridge, 32 megs of RAM and a 250 MHz processor.
