Quick Tips on Buying A Used Car or A Used Truck

Over a span of 17 years I have purchased 7 used automobiles and trucks with no regrets. Several used vehicles actually went well over the 300,000 km’s with only mini repairs needed.

You will probably be shocked to know that I drove 5,000 km’s to work on average each month. By purchasing a vehicle I saved a whole bunch of money. By following these simple rules you will be able to have confidence in purchasing a used cars.

1.
Don’t be in a hurry. Unfortunately buying a used trucks takes time and a little more research.
2.
Know what you want to buy and the price you should expect by checking out automobile magazines or even going on-line.
3.
Try to purchase a used vehicle that has less than 100,000 km’s (unless its highway km’s)
4.
Always test drive the vehicle and check the oil to see if it is topped up and clean. Pump the brakes, feel the steering wheel for tightness and look at the engine for any unusual messes or spills.
5.
Ask the seller where it was driven and why they are selling.
6.
Check to see if they are the original owner.
7.
Only if you like the automobile and are thinking of purchasing it then take it in to a mechanic for full inspection. A must do!
8.
Check the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) through registries. A must do to make sure there’s no money being owed on the vehicle and you’d buy it and be responsible for the payments.

Always take your “new” second-hand vehicle into a qualified mechanic to fix major problems. Doing so will save you thousands of dollars and help you control stressful thoughts about your vehicle’s “desperate needs” .

I found that prevention on a second-hand vehicle goes a long way if compared to fixing major problems down the road. Add a tow truck fee to a shop charge and it’s usually a big sum. Fix a little at a time .
