Scissor Lifts Solve Problems

Scissor lifts (or man lifts) are versatile pieces of equipment that can be used for a wide variety of tasks. They are an alternative to boom lifts and portable aerial platforms, but of course they are specifically designed to be particularly useful in scenarios where there is only narrow access.

There are two specific situations concerning narrow, or restricted access where a scissor lift is the ideal solution. If you need to raise a platform for men to work from in some kind of shaft situation where it would be impossible to get a boom lift in, then of course the scissor lifts is the ideal solution. But also, there are many scenarios where a scissor lift needs to be taken inside a building that only has a small doorway for the lift to enter through.

Even the very largest scissor lifts will shrink to the sort of size that will pass through any standard doorway. A lot of thought has gone into the design of scissor lifts, so you will also find other features such as non-marking tires. These ensure that if the lift has to drive across an easily damaged surface no damage will be caused by the lift.

Some scissor lifts have special wheels back can turn 360 degrees, therefore giving them zero turning radius. This allows the lift to be manoeuvred in very tight spaces. Plus, it means that small adjustments can be made to the positioning of the lift, by the operator, even when he is on the platform, up in the air. Another special feature of some electrically powered scissor lifts is that they are fitted with a low sound emission electric motors. This means that the lift can be used to work in a sound sensitive environment where people are working, for example-in offices and in schools.

There are different attachments available for scissor lifts. Some lifts have folding guardrails which mean that the total height of the lift when retracted it is a lot lower. You can also get some lifts which have work lights attached to the platform. For navigating rough ground and establishing a level and stable base for the lift, a lift with self levelling outriggers is ideal. These are the little legs which support the lift and raise the wheels off the ground. With self levelling outriggers they automatically ensure that the base and therefore the platform, are level.

Sometimes scissor lifts can malfunction after heavy use. This is where on board diagnostics come in handy. These allow the operator to diagnose and hopefully solve the problem while the platform is raised. This obviously saves time because the operator does not have to lower the lift in order to solve the problem.

Scissor lifts are a valuable tool for many businesses and one of the best solutions when having to carry out work at height. Raise your game with a scissor lift.
