Electronic equipment has gone through the most amazing revolution in the last couple of years, along with this revolution TV’s PC’s and Mobile phones have slimmed down into the most stylishly developed electronic imaginable. The latest example of this design genius is the Samsung SCX 4500 MFP, it has a very small footprint of 13 by 15.5 by 6.5. Although these small dimensions may belie your faith in this product it is still a marvel of design. This printer is a full function MFP regardless of the fact that it has been slimmed down. It also has a very stylish exterior and if it is style you want then you will definitely get it. This printer is incredibly quiet as well as easy to operate.
Touch sensitive controls feature on the control panel, and although the settings are limited, you have to take the good with the bad. SmartThru software is used for some of the printer functions and for scanning and this can be installed on Windows XP in as little as 5 minutes. You need to have your own USB cable as the printer does not come complete with this. Make sure you have purchased one, or that you have one available from an old printer. One you have set your MFP up, it requires very little warm up time and a printed page can be copied in about 10 seconds.
The paper tray is concealed below the printer itself and does not hold a great deal of paper, but if small design is what you are looking for, then you will have to live with refilling it regularly. The price tag is around $300 and for this amount of money your print quality is not going to be fantastic, but it is adequate.
Although greyscale printing is good and the scan quality is excellent at 600 x 2400 dpi. It is also a very simple task to replace printer toner plugs, just remove and replace.
For home use the Samsung SCX-4500 MFP is ideal, as far as networking goes this printer does not have a built in Ethernet, so it is not ideal. It also does not have a USB port for USP to print function. With a print speed of approximately 16 pages per minute it is not the fastest, and some of the competition is way ahead of this. But if you want style then the trade offs are bearable.
