For people who are in dire need of a cheap and good quality laser printer the Brother 2070N printer is an excellent choice. This printer has the ability to either be directly attached to your existing network or to your computer. The printer is great at printing crisp and sharp text which is well defined and shaped.
You wont have any problems setting up this printer since it weighs a mere 14.3 pounds and easy to handle. The built-in automatic setup utility helps you set up your printer to your network in quick easy steps. However we noticed that the design of the Brother HL-2070 closely resembles that of the HL 2040. It does have the very same print engine and paper capacity of 250 sheets. It still has the convenient option of manual paper feed.
We would like to add that this printer is not the HL 2040 with just a network option added because as a matter of fact it has more memory. The print job is also processed at the printer rather than your computer working on the print job.
The HL 2070 is quite fast and turned out a decent page per minute. Since laser printers are all about speed and quality text this one surely does the job it is supposed to. Photo printing on this printer is however slower than other printers tested and at high resolution it slows down significantly. This printer is not a very good graphics printer and shouldn’t be used to print high resolution graphic images. There are problems with the printer’s ability with dithering and posterization. Text on the other hand is remarkable and very clear at four points.
I found that this printer tended to curl the pages a bit which in my opinion is bad paper handling. According to Brother this is going to be fixed in up coming models. This printer is for those people who require a good high quality text printer. However I would recommend that you don’t buy this printer if you want to print graphics at a high resolution.
At the price level this printer is set it does a pretty good job at doing what laser printers are expected to do i.e. print text. You can still use it to print graphics but don’t expect any remarkable results. What it can do is print fine monochrome graphics which most text documents would include.
I loved the capacity of the Brother HL 2070N Toner that came with the printer. It is large enough to give you a decent running time. You won’t need to run around looking for a replacement in a few days. In most small offices the toner should last a little over a few months.
If you use the Brother HL 2070N Toner Cartridge to print graphics it’s going to exhaust the HL Toner Cartridges sooner than you expect. This is another reason why you shouldn’t use this printer to output high resolution graphics and just stick to text. Your text will look crisp and sharp as compared to your graphics so just keep this printer to text. Leave out all the other stuff from your documents.
