When Windscreen wipers were first invented, it was to help the car user to maintain his clean windshield without needing to stick his hand outside of the car and clean the windshield maually.
Nearly everywhere that glass is located, so will you find Wiper blades. They are not merely used for the front windshield of a car, but often on hatchbacks are also attached to the back. Some vehicles also have Wiper blades on their headlamps. This is most useful for dirty roads, or in snowy weather, where headlamps could quickly become much less efficient without this wonderful invention.
Even aeroplanes have Windscreen wipers and I would imagine they need to have some of the best Wiper blades around. As they travel at such high speed and with huge temperature variations anything less than top quality would deteriorate quickly.
Public transport, whether buses, trams or trains, all have Windscreen wipers in order to help their drivers to see where they are going. Although trains are on rails, and therefore it may be wondered ”so why is it necessary for a train driver to see so well?” there are still signals along the train line which the train driver needs to take heed of in order to keep the passengers safe. The driver also needs to be able to see when arriving at a station that the train stops safely. Wiper blades, therefore, are most important for all modes of public transport.
Mopeds do not look to have Windscreen wipers and this is most likely due to the fact that not all motorbikes have windscreens. Motorcyclists wear crash helmets with visors and they often also have a special rain visor, so the need for Wiper blades on a motorbike is not as high as it would be for other modes of vehicle.
The best wiper blades moving away from transport have personally got to be the ones used by window cleaners. How much easier it is to get a clean finish on home, office and shop windows by the use of Wiper blades than ever it was with cream cleaners and elbow grease. I am uncertain who first had the idea to move the Wiper blades away from the windscreen and used them on a building window, but I admire their resourcefulness greatly. Sparkling windows are now much more easy to attain.
Smaller Wiper blades are also in shops for use in the bathroom, on shower screens and tiles, so that these can be kept clear and help prevent the accumulation of limescale.
This all just shows how one person’s notion of how to improve life for a certain sector of the public can in actual fact be beneficial to many more people’s day to day chores in time.
